     Procedures

Springboard Ask the students the following joke and questions:  What does a rock want to be when he grows up?….. A rock star.  Do you know your birthstone? What is the hardest mineral?  The answer to these and many more questions can be found by completing the treasure hunt.

             What teacher is to do

1.     Demonstrate on big computer screen how to navigate through the treasure hunt.

2.    Provide handout of the questions for students to write their answers.

             What students are to do

1.     Complete questions on handout in a timely manner by navigating through the various websites linked to the treasure hunt.

2.    Turn in answers to questions for grading.

3.    For extra credit, complete the quiz mentioned in the websites.

Closure:  Provide an opportunity to go over quiz and joke answers orally with class.

Assessment: Grading of questions for accuracy.  Grade entered in Science grades.

Explanation: I chose this activity because the websites were clever and it was an extension of a science unit in our textbook.
