Introduction: This is a map reading quiz of important geographical locations in the state of Nebraska. 

Content Area(s) and Grade Level

Standard 4.19 Students will demonstrate map skills by constructing a simple map of the North American continent, which will include the essential map elements of title, scale, key, directional indicator, and date.

 

Integrated disciplines Social Studies and Computer Technology

   Objectives

1.     Students will demonstrate mastery of reading a map key and compass rose.

2.    Students will obtain knowledge of important geographical markers in Nebraska.

     Procedures

         Springboard The class will discuss map keys, compass roses and locating geographical locations on a map of Iowa.

 

             What teacher is to do

1.     Teacher will hand out a printout of the map of Iowa from the website.

2.    The teacher will ask questions about locating geographical locations using the map key and compass rose.

3.    Teacher will provide access to the website for the map of Nebraska.

 

 

             What students are to do

1.     Students will locate the website for the map of Nebraska.

2.    Students will fill out the map quiz located on the website and hand it in for credit.

 

     Closure:  The teacher will post the map quizzes on an attractive bulletin board.

        

     Assessment:  The quiz will be grades for accuracy and the score will be posted in the grade book.    

  

    Explanation: This lesson gives good practice in map skills.
